WiMax Test Drive — Roamin’ on Xohm in Chicago

November 2, 2008

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what is a video worth? We can’t think of any better way to illustrate how WiMax could change the consumer broadband experience than with a bird’s-eye view of mobile WiMax in action — albeit on the Xohm “beta” network in Chicago, which at the time of this filming was not yet commercially available.

Thanks to the folks at Clearwire and their mobile demo van, we took a little ride and put mobile WiMax through some tests, including streaming audio and video. If you don’t believe this technology works, just watch this short video and then ask yourself how could WiMax change your broadband experience.

WiMax World: At the Hotel Cass

September 30, 2008

Just checked in to the Hotel Cass (aka a Holiday Inn Express with rooms like closets), getting ready for the first day of WiMax World Tuesday. I heard there was some news today about WiMax and wireless access — but since I was traveling, visiting family and friends here in sweet home Chicago I will have to catch up on all the information tomorrow.

During a week when we’ll be talking a lot about wireless broadband access, my Verizon EVDO card is setting the bar pretty high tonight — let’s see if it can keep up the download pace tomorrow from the McCormick Center show floor.

Looking forward to the Motorola “connected home” demo at the Museum of Science and Industry, and the morning keynote from AT&T’s Hank Kafka. Will he show some mo’ love for WiMax?

UPDATE: Think the Verizon folks are pumping up the cell network at the WiMax show? This reading from the panel discussions ballroom at the 4G Executive Summit:

Zing!
