AT&T Loves Its WiMAX — In Alaska
Can you guess which service provider has a professional video touting WiMAX as something that is “Easy to Install, No Contract, No Hassles?” You might think such promotion is coming from nascent national WiMAX provider Clearwire, but no — this tagline comes from AT&T, which uses WiMAX to provide service to parts of Alaska, including Anchorage and Juneau.

Since the video with the “easy to install” pitch isn’t embeddable, we’ll just serve up the link as well as one to another video, a lame humor attempt about grandparents surfing. And even though the ads claim no contract and no hassles, the advertised $19.95 a month price comes with a contract and the hassle of adding either local or long distance voice services — so in fine AT&T fashion it’s not as easy or good as they say it is.
For small businesses in Alaska, AT&T is offering the price tiers below — not sure what the competition has in our country’s biggest state, but $60 a month for 1.5 Mbps download speeds doesn’t sound like a big bargain. But again, notice the “No Contract Required” bold face. Maybe there’s something to the WiMAX madness after all?
