Can Clearwire add 81,000 Subscribers in Q4?

That’s the question we posed last week on our blog over at Unstrung — that number works out roughly to 900 new subscribers a day. Now that number can also include wholesale subscriptions added via partners like Sprint, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Bright House — and it now includes live markets in Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia and Charlotte, N.C.

So if the older markets of Portland, Las Vegas and Atlanta keep pace — and it stands to reason that Clearwire’s marketing is one that will build over time, as opposed to an iPhone phenomenon where people are waiting outside stores — maybe 81,000 new subscriptions is too low a goal? Still, signing up 900 people a day to anything seems like enough work to us. For the newly funded Clearwire, turning up the sales machine can’t start early enough as it looks to its next inevitable funding round a year or so away.
