Busy Month Ahead for ‘New’ Clearwire
Following the expected approval of its WiMax merger with Sprint by shareholders this Thursday, there will be a lot to do over the last month of 2008 for the “New” Clearwire, if it is to live up to previous promises.
First and foremost are the public launches of the Sprint Xohm WiMax networks in Chicago and Washington, D.C., which are both supposed to take place before the end of the calendar year. There is also the question of whether or not Clearwire’s own mobile WiMax network in Portland, Ore., will go live in 2008 — the company had previously said it would launch during Q4, but never actually said that would be a “commercial” launch. The debuts of all three of these networks may depend on how quickly the company can get together any new marketing plan, such as whether or not to keep using the Xohm name, etc.
So far, no hint of any details from either the Clearwire or Xohm sides, with spokesfolks saying only that there will be a press release following the shareholder vote Thursday. In the meantime, if you need to get up to speed on the New Clearwire and its chances in the U.S. market, order our WiMax Report, which now includes a previously separate QuickCut Report on the New Clearwire’s spectrum assets.
